ALPHA GAMMA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Louisiana State

The Alpha Gamma Alumni Association would like to congratulate the Alpha Gamma Chapter for being one of the top fraternities on campus during the fall formal rush by pledging 26 men.

All alumni are invited to attend the association’s Founders Day wine and cheese social on the evening of March 1, 2009. The alumni association and the active chapter will also host the 2nd annual spring football crawfish boil during the weekend of the LSU spring football game.

Through continuous financial support from alumni, the Alpha Gamma House Corporation recently had new carpet installed upstairs and on the stairway, purchased a new stove and refrigerator, and they plan on installing a new dishwasher in the upcoming year.

ALPHA ZETA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Arkansas

Over the weekend of October 3-4, 2008, Alpha Zeta alumni conducted another successful reunion which was held in Fayetteville and the surrounding area in Northwest Arkansas, with about 250 brothers, wives and friends in attendance. On Friday, due to the large turnout, the reunion was actually three reunions held at different area locations. The largest group, with brothers who were initiated in 1966 and earlier, gathered at the Springdale Country Club for an afternoon golf tournament, followed by dinner and music by John Tolleson. Anyone who attended Arkansas in the 50s or 60s remembers Tolleson’s band as one of the great bands of that era. The other venues were Hog Haus and The Inn at Carnall Hall on the university campus. All groups had a great time reconnecting and reminiscing during these three events. On Saturday, many of the participants attended the Arkansas vs Florida football game. After the game the active chapter hosted an open house for all alumni at the chapter house. The attendance, which exceeded the capacity of the house, overflowed to a large tent on the front yard where everyone enjoyed the good food and live music.

ALPHA ETA ALUMNI CLUB
Florida

The Alpha Eta E-gator alumni email newsletter is being distributed monthly to over 500 Alpha Eta alumni, with alumni news, pictures and chapter information. A printed version will be mailed to all alumni with an updated mailing address in December 2008 and May 2009. If you are not receiving the monthly email newsletter, contact Ernie Cox ’81 at ernie@familylandremembered.com. The Alpha Eta Alumni Club is seeking alumni throughout the state of Florida to support the efforts of a successful rebuilding of the chapter.

The 2008 alumni golf tournament, held on June 21, was a big success with over 30 participants. This year’s event, which marked the seventh year for the tournament, was attended by Alpha Eta Pikes from four different decades. Next summer the get together will be expanded to include a Friday evening event and Saturday activities for wives and children. If you want to be notified of this event next summer, send your contact information to Chris Peterson ’91 at peterson712@yahoo.com.

In September 2008, Neil Powell ’46, Claude Wolfe ’53 and Charlie Gray ’51 hosted over 25 alumni at the University Club in downtown Orlando. The attending alumni, with initiation years ranging from the 50s to the 90s, received an update on the chapter and House Corporation, discussed long-term strategy for rebuilding the chapter, as well as the potential for building a new chapter house. Over $4,000 in contributions and pledges was collected. The alumni club believes the next step is the revitalization of the Orlando Area Alumni Association. Any alumni interested in helping with these efforts should contact Claude Wolfe at claudeinorlando@att.net. John Layton ’51 hosted an alumni reception at his home in Jacksonville in November 2008, and will be working with local Jacksonville alumni on creating an alumni association for the area. If you are interesting in getting involved in this effort, contact Layton at jlayton1415@comcast.net.

A large gathering of Alpha Eta alumni took place over the Florida vs. LSU game weekend in October 2008, where over 50 brothers from the late 70s and early 80s gathered in Gainesville for a Friday night event and game day tailgate.

ALPHA PI ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Samford

The Alpha Pi Alumni Association held a barbeque reception during the Samford vs. Appalachian State game on October 11, 2008, to say goodbye to the old chapter house that is being torn down by Samford University to make way for additional university housing. The chapter house was built in the late 1950s after funds were raised by a board of alumni boosters. The house holds many fond memories for the alumni of Alpha Pi, and many brothers and their families came out on the beautiful autumn day to remember the good times and bonds that were forged among men long since graduation.

The Alpha Pi Chapter is currently silent at Samford, but the alumni board is actively working so that one day new brothers can be welcomed to the bonds at Samford again, building new memories and lifelong friendships upon the old ones that are still strong in the minds of those brothers of Alpha Pi.

ALPHA OMEGA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Kansas State

On September 27, 2008, the alumni association and active chapter dedicated the new patio on the north side of the chapter house in memory of Caleb Eilert, brother of Michael Eilert ’04. Caleb was killed in a vehicle accident in Manhattan in the spring of 2007. Though not an initiated brother, he had every quality of a True Pike. As a junior and senior in high school, he frequently came to KSU to visit and immediately fit in and was well liked by everyone. At the dedication, many of the engraved bricks purchased by loyal alumni were on display for the first time.

BETA OMICRON ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Oklahoma

The excitement of a new chapter house also brought the excitement of a newly formed alumni association. The alumni held its first Founders Day in conjunction with a house warming for the new chapter house in March 2008, with over 130 alumni and guests in attendance. Twenty alumni brothers assisted the chapter during the 2008 International Work Day as they worked on updating projects and rebuilt the back yard stockade fence. Close to 40 alumni representing four pledge classes from the late 70s held a reunion in October 2008 during the OU Homecoming festivities. For more information on upcoming events, including Founders Day 2009 and the 2009 International Work Day, contact association president Hub Caldwell ’79 at hub@sbcglobal.net.

GAMMA XI ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

On the morning of September 27, 2008, alumni, Memorial Headquarters staff, undergraduates and WSU faculty gathered at the chapter house for the dedication of the alumni room in honor of Phillip Malcolm Lighty ’38, who passed away in January 2008. Members of the Lighty family were present for the dedication, and several alumni made brief comments prior to the unveiling of the bronze plaque which honors Brother Lighty, and which is now proudly displayed in the Phil Lighty Alumni Room.
