Timothy Min ’92 has accepted the position of vice president of international trade affairs & compliance for DHL Express. Min was previously with the FedEx Express legal department. Johnny Wu ’93 is the regional medical director for UMDNJ-UCHC in New Jersey, where he supervises the health care services for the Central Region of the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Last spring he was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Physicians.

KANSAS STATE
Alpha Omega

Ryan Collett ’04 (at right in photo) and Eric Hren (Toledo, Epsilon Epsilon ’04) ran the Chicago Marathon on October 12, 2008. Collett and Hren trained for almost six months in the heat of Memphis, Tennessee preparing for the big race. Over 35,000 runners participated in this year’s race with temperatures reaching the mid 80’s on race day. The Chicago Marathon is one of the top five elite marathons in the world that include New York, Boston, Berlin, and London. Both Collett and Hren are members of the Pike Memorial Headquarters staff.

David Hill ’98 announces the opening of the Law Office of David L. Hill, PLLC, in Lexington, Kentucky. The firm maintains a general business law practice with a focus on corporate and commercial law, as well as small business planning, proving services to clients throughout the Commonwealth.

J. Scott Judy ’90 was named senior vice president of operations and chief operating officer for the Masonic Homes of Kentucky. Judy is a Certified Fund Raising Executive and Past Master of Louisville Lodge No. 400, F. & A.M. He and his wife, Tricia, reside at Glarus Farm in La Grange, Kentucky, with their two children, Curtis and Lindsey.

Harry Weingartner ’54 recently celebrated his 72nd birthday and retirement as first vice president / financial consultant after 33 years from RBC Dain Rauscher Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada. With all of the turmoil that is going on in the financial markets, he is pleased that his company continued to do quite well. He has been on the board of directors of the One Percent Club for the past several years in the Twin Cities, and hopes the concept will spread nationwide. The One Percent Club members contribute 1% or more of their net worth annually, or 5% of income, whichever is greater, to the tax-deductible cause(s) of their choice. Brian Thomas ’07 currently serves as alderman for the City of Opelousas, and was recently elected to the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee, in addition to being elected as a Louisiana district-level delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Also, on May 15, 2008, the Louisiana Democratic State Central Committee elected Thomas as vice-chairman in charge of elected officials for the Louisiana Democratic Party, becoming one of the party’s youngest leaders in history at 21 years of age.

Tom McCraw ’86 and John Mahar ’83 have opened the Hollywood Disco Nashville on Division Street near Vanderbilt. McCraw and Mahar re-opened the Hollywood Disco, formerly Raiford’s Hollywood Disco, in downtown Memphis in October 2007. Ken Baker ’75 retired after 30 years in the education field, the past 25 as a principal and superintendent. He has accepted a position as associate executive director of the State Principal’s Association in Columbus, Ohio. He and his wife, Debbie, live in Delaware, Ohio.

Mark Mays ’88 was installed as president of the Mississippi Magnolia Chapter of the Society of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) in June 2008. CPCU is recognized and respected as the premier professional designation in the property-casualty insurance industry. Todd Underwood ’86 participated in the 27th annual Hotter ‘n Hell Hundred bike race on August 23, 2008. The HHH is one of the oldest and largest cycling events in the U.S., with riders from every state and several foreign countries participating in the event which is held in Wichita Falls, Texas. This year’s event drew approximately 15,000 riders. The race is one hundred miles in usually 100 degree weather – top temperature this year during the ride was 108. Underwood’s ride time was 5 hours, 45 minutes, but with two flat tires (at mile 42 and mile 75) his final time was closer to 6.5 hours with an average speed of 17.5 miles per hour. Tucker Sappington ’03 has accepted the position of assistant dean of students at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Sappington worked as a chapter consultant for the Pi Kappa Alpha Memorial Headquarters during the 2006-2007 academic year.

Jim Marfice ’76 is the NGC data services manager with Schlumberger in Houston, Texas. He had an exciting year with a promotion, his daughter was married, and he relocated to Houston on September 11, 2008, just in time for Hurricane Ike on September 12.

Joseph Schmidberger ’07 has joined the trading floor at PSEG where he works on hedging strategy related to PSEG’s power generation assets in the northeast. Mark Baumer ’92 serves as the mass market regional specialist for Case International Harvester Company. He and his wife, Jennifer, and their sons, Logan and Landon, relocated from Fresno, California, to their current home in La Grange, Kentucky.

Galen Gorman ’70 is the vice president and chief financial officer of Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He also serves on the national Practices & Principles Board of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
