The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity
2007-2008 Annual Report

Pike University

Rick BurtPi Kappa Alpha’s leadership programming offered through Pike University concluded its fifth year shattering previous attendance records with more than 2,300 undergraduates from over 180 chapters and colonies participating in at least one event. In February, 389 attendees at the Chicago Leadership Summit represented the largest leadership summit to date! The overall 2007-08 event attendance reflects an almost 8% increase over the previous year’s attendance.

The year began with the biennial Academy in Olive Branch, Mississippi, where more than 300 student leaders from over 117 chapters participated in various sessions from chapter programming tactics to personalized leadership concepts and principles. The Fraternity also recognized the accomplishments of individuals and chapters through its annual international awards program.

The Chapter Executives Conference in January welcomed 448 undergraduates to Memphis, TN, another attendance record. The CEC feature presenter, Jeff Taylor (Massachusetts, Theta Mu ’79), founder and former CEO of Monster.com shared professional and life experiences with the chapter presidents, treasurers and recruitment chairmen. Taylor conveyed several tips for becoming successful in life, but stressed with zeal how important of a role his fraternal experiences accounted for his overall professional success.

Pike University also hosted six Leadership Summits during 2007-08. The Leadership Summits are particularly unique and effective because they are geographically based events which bring together a diverse and vast group of novice and seasoned undergraduate leaders to recount their fraternal experiences through interactive group exercises. This past year, Pike University toured Philadelphia, PA, Kansas City, MO, Costa Mesa, CA, Dallas, TX, Atlanta, GA, and Chicago, IL. Next year, Pike University will be adding a handful of new cities to the upcoming schedule.

Servant LeadershipPike University is proud to announce that the backbone of future leadership curriculum will be even more innovative. Beginning this fall at the Leadership Summits, the curriculum will incorporate more of Robert K. Greenleaf’s principles of Servant Leadership, as introduced at the CEC this past January. The International Educational and Recruitment Advisors are very excited about this addition to the Pike University curriculum.

Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity is continuing its role as a leader due to the generosity and support to Pike University from the volunteers and professionals who serve as facilitators and presenters at events which display a positive impact on the lives of all Pi Kappa Alpha members. A very special thank you goes out to all alumni who have served as faculty over the past year.
