ATLANTA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Atlanta Alumni Association held their annual alumni reception at the Capital City Club in Buckhead, and seventeen brothers representing nine different chapters were in attendance, along with seven guests. Alumni brothers young and old enjoyed everyone’s stories from the different chapters. The next alumni event will be the auction held in the fall – date to be determined. All brothers are encouraged to donate an item for the auction, and to attend the auction, which will help support an undergraduate scholarship. For more information on the auction, as well as other association events, contact Jim Mastrom ’74 at jpmsr55@earthlink.net.
BIG SKY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Gamma Kappa Chapter (Montana State)
Plans are coming together for Gamma Kappa’s 80th anniversary celebration, which will coincide with Montana State’s Homecoming planned for October 11, 2008. Activities will kick off on Thursday, October 9, with a golf tournament at Bridger Creek Golf Course. The annual meeting of the Big Sky Alumni Association is planned for October 10. Saturday, October 11, promises to be very memorable with the Homecoming parade, pre-game tailgate, football game against Weber State and the 80th anniversary banquet to be held at the Holiday Inn. Keep checking www.msupikes.com for more details and registration information.
GARNET & GOLD ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Kappa Lambda (Western Illinois)
The alumni association has been working hard to organize the chapter newsletter with articles on chapter history, alumni members and chapter activities. Several brothers contributed articles to make it a great read. The first issue went in the mail in August, and it was also posted online.
Features of the www.kappalambda.com website have fallen into neglect in recent years, but now Joe Johnson ’97 and Eric Wells ’96 are reworking the website to include an online networking system for all chapter brothers to benefit from. Once this feature is up and running you will be notified, and there will be a form available for you to update your personal information.
Mark your calendars for the Western Illinois Homecoming on October 18, 2008. As always there will be tailgating in the pit, then back to the house. Food will be provided at the tailgate, but please bring your own beverages. Visit www.kappalambda.com for more information on alumni association events.
NASHVILLE AREA ALUMNI ASSOCIATON
In their third year since chartering, the Nashville Area Alumni Association has had two successful events in 2008 and have two more planned before the end of the year. The association continues to grow and continues to reach out to the many Pike alumni that live in the area from many, many chapters. They have defined the Nashville area as Davidson and the contiguous counties, and actively solicit alumni who live in the area. They warmly welcome all alumni in the area, even those who live outside of the defined area, as they come together to celebrate and support our great Fraternity. An email will be sent out notifying all of the upcoming events. If you are interested in joining the group or want information about the association, contact treasurer Shane Bailey (Western Kentucky, Zeta Epsilon ’91) at psbailey@comcast.net or 615-428-2161, or association president David Graham (Tennessee-Martin, Epsilon Sigma ’69) at gruder@comcast.net or 615-297-3858.
NATIONAL CAPITAL AREA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Over the last year, alumni in Maryland, Virginia and DC area have been gathering monthly to visit over dinner and network with one another. It was suggested since the group had grown to over 60 on the mailing list, and upwards of 30 at each monthly dinner, that the local area alumni association recharter with the ΠΚΑ International Headquarters.
They are happy to report that the National Capital Area Alumni Association (NCAAA) has been rechartered and they welcome all alumni in the area to join the association at one of its upcoming events. The official kickoff event will be a dinner and short business meeting held the evening of September 20, 2008. More information about this dinner will be mailed to alumni in the area who have their contact information updated with the International Headquarters.
For those looking for something a little more informal, the next monthly dinner event will be held on October 23, 2008, at Tortilla Coast with drinks from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. If you can’t be there for the entire event, stop by for any part of it to re-connect with your brothers.
For more information on the association, visit www.ncaaapikes.com, or contact association president Tony Meyer (Utah, Alpha Tau ’99) at meyer01@gmail.com. For information on upcoming events, contact the event coordinator Jason Atkins (Utah, Alpha Tau ’99) at jasonsatkin@gmail.com.
NORTH CAROLINA-WILMINGTON AREA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Pi Kappa Alpha will be expanding to the University of North Carolina-Wilmington in the fall 2008 semester. Since there has never been a chapter, they are attempting to form a Wilmington Area Alumni Association for any Pikes who currently live in the Wilmington area. Please contact Scott Hammatt (LSU, Alpha Gamma ’98) at Scott.Hammatt@ge.com if you currently reside in the area and are interested in joining the new alumni association.
SOUTHEAST FLORIDA PIKE
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The group had a successful first year as an official alumni association. At the annual board meeting in mid-May, they reviewed what was accomplished this past year and what they are working on for the future. One of the staples of the organization is the evening networking functions that take place every four or five weeks. The events are rotated between Ft. Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm. Turnout has been excellent relative to the number of people they have on their distribution list, and they encourage all area Pikes to join them for the next event. In September, the association is planning a large barbeque for all Pikes, family, friends and kids. To assist with the programming and services the association provides, they are asking for each member to donate $50 to the alumni association fund. For more information on the association membership, or to inquire about upcoming events, contact Marty Basekrus (Southern Illinois, Iota Mu ’96) at Marty.Busekrus@gmail.com.
TOLEDO ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Homecoming at the University of Toledo will be held on October 4, 2008, where the Rockets will take on Ball State at 7:00 p.m. in the Glass Bowl. Details for pre-game activities will be in the fall edition of the Pikes Peak, or you may contact Tom Dunifon ’68 at tdunifon@toast.net for more information.
